Conservation

Our goal is to create healthy urban habitat, free from chemicals, providing a place for wildlife to survive and thrive. It will attract pollinators, birds and reptiles and encourage people of all ages to get outdoors to appreciate and enjoy the beauty and benefits of nature. We hope to inspire and educate people on how to plant native wildflowers in public areas.

Education

We will give teachers, scoutmasters, and other leaders two successful ways for planting wildflowers. “Seed Bombs” and “Scratch, Sow and Stomp” methods are fun and educational for all. There are detailed instructions on making seed balls and broadcasting, which can be used by any age group. The instructions include information on the best selection of seeds for the Houston area as well as resources for finding the native seeds.

The Garden Club of Houston has been actively supporting the planting of native wildflowers for years through annual grants and member hands-on activities, as well as instructions available on our website gchouston.org, see “Education."
